The latest outboard technology powers a classic Canadian adventure

For freshwater multi-species anglers, Canada is a dreamscape. A place where remote wilderness, natural beauty and world-class fishing collide in pure adventure.

It’s the perfect backdrop for Jay Siemens. The former fishing guide turned YouTube creator travels throughout Canada and abroad, exploring unique fishing opportunities and sharing his adventures with his fans.

Based in northwest Ontario, Jay lives at the intersection of tradition and innovation in the fishing world. Backcountry adventures, like fly-in trips to remote lakes, have been part of Canadian fishing culture for generations. Today, however, anglers can bring along powerful new technology, such as advanced sonar, high-modulus graphite rods and digital mapping tools. This new-school gear amplifies an old-school experience, making the fishing even more memorable.

That’s what made one of Jay’s recent trips so compelling. Last fall, he partnered with Mercury to bring a modern twist to a classic Canadian fishing experience. He and his pilot friend, Hayden, brought an Avator 7.5e electric outboard along on a fly-in fishing trip to target smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.

While electric outboards may not be the right choice for every scenario, Jay proved once again that the latest technology can enhance fishing traditions in new and exciting ways.
