How To: Register Your Extended Warranty

Step 1: Activate Your  Standard Warranty

Register your new outboard with your authorised Mercury dealer to activate your standard manufacturer's warranty

Step 2: Extend Your Coverage

Register on the E.P. Barrus Extended Warranty Portal within 6 months of purchase to secure your additional 2 years of protection

Conditions to claim Your Extended Warranty

You can claim up to 7 years Extended Warranty if all of the following apply: 

  • Purchased a new outboard from 11th April 2025 onwards
  • Your Mercury outboard engine is between 2.5HP and 300HP
  • Used for leisure applications only
  • Purchased in the UK, including Ireland and Northern Ireland, from an Authorised Mercury Dealer
  • Your Mercury Standard Warranty has been registered with your Mercury Dealer
  • Program applicable upon fulfillment of conditions to benefit from the Mercury Extended Warranty (up to 5 years)

  • SeaPro models
  • Mercury Racing engines
  • Avator electric engines
  • Commercial use engines
  • Used Engines

FourStroke 2.5-20hp

FourStroke 25-30hp

FourStroke 40-60hp

  • Keep your registration confirmation email and details safe for future claims
  • Both registrations are required to activate the full 7-year coverage.

The Extended Barrus-Backed Warranty is a warranty extension provided directly by E.P. Barrus, while Mercury Product Protection (MPP) is a service contract offered by Mercury Marine. They are different products with different terms, administration, and coverage structures.

  • Authorised Servicing: All maintenance must be performed by authorised Mercury dealers
  • Schedule Adherence: Follow Mercury's official servicing and maintenance intervals precisely
  • Documentation: Keep complete service records with dealer stamps and invoices
  • UK or Ireland and Northern Ireland Based: Engine must remain in the UK or Ireland and Northern Ireland throughout the warranty period
  • Dual Registration: Ensure registration with both Mercury Marine upon engine handover with your dealer AND the E.P. Barrus portal within 6 months of purchase

  • Single Point of Contact: All warranty claims (years 1-7) go through authorised Mercury dealers in the UK, Ireland or Northern Ireland
  • Dealer Handles Administration: Your dealer will manage the claim with the appropriate body (Mercury Marine for years 1-5, Mercury Marine’s Distributor - E.P. Barrus for years 6-7)
  • Required Documentation: Proof of purchase, warranty confirmation, and complete service history
  • No Direct Claims: Customers cannot claim directly with Mercury or Barrus - you must go through authorised Mercury Dealers

  • Mercury outboard engines between 2.5HP - 300HP for leisure use
  • Purchased new from 11th April 2025 onwards
  • Must remain in the UK or Ireland and Northern Ireland for the warranty duration
  • Excludes: SeaPro models, Mercury Racing engines, Avator electric engines and commercial-use engines 

This 2-year warranty extension is provided at no additional cost by E.P. Barrus for eligible customers who purchase qualifying Mercury outboards and complete the registration process correctly. This warranty reflects the same coverage as the Mercury Limited Warranty

The extended warranty provides identical coverage to the standard Mercury warranty, including:

  • Parts and labour for manufacturing defects
  • Repair or replacement of covered components
  • Work carried out by authorised Mercury dealers
  • Excludes: Normal wear and tear, corrosion, accessories, rigging components, and damage from improper use or lack of maintenance

This will invalidate both your standard Mercury warranty and the Extended Barrus-Backed Warranty. All servicing must be completed by authorised Mercury dealers following Mercury's official service schedules to maintain warranty coverage.

You must register on the E.P. Barrus Extended Warranty Portal within 6 months of your engine's original purchase date. Late registrations cannot be accepted.

  • Original proof of purchase (invoice/receipt)
  • Extended warranty registration confirmation
  • Complete service history with dates and dealer stamps
  • Any warranty-related correspondence

The Extended Barrus-Backed Warranty mirrors the terms of the standard Mercury warranty at the time of your engine purchase. Any future changes to Mercury's warranty terms won't affect coverage already in place.

As Mercury's long-standing UK partner, we're enhancing our commitment to UK, Ireland, and Northern Ireland customers by providing additional peace of mind and demonstrating our confidence in Mercury product reliability.

The process is identical for you as the customer - you always go through an authorised Mercury dealer.

You can take your boat to any other authorised Mercury dealer in the UK, Ireland or Northern Ireland for warranty work. Ensure you have your documentation available for the new dealer.

The coverage mirrors the standard Mercury warranty, which typically excludes normal wear and tear, corrosion, and cosmetic issues. Refer to the Mercury Marine warranty terms for specific exclusions.

The Extended Barrus-Backed Warranty is only available for leisure-use engines. Commercial use will invalidate the coverage.

The Extended Barrus-Backed Warranty mirrors the terms of the standard Mercury warranty at the time of your engine purchase. Any future changes to Mercury's warranty terms won't affect coverage already in place.
