Get Lit wins Mercury-sponsored sailfish tournament

The Mercury-sponsored Get Lit fishing team skippered by Quinton Diterle claimed the 2011 Sea Vee/Mercury Mayor’s Cup held Jan. 29-30 in Miami.

The victory netted the team $65,000 and the Mayor’s Cup trophy, which will be displayed at the Coral Gables City Hall for the next year.

It was the team’s first tournament title after finishing runner-up in several competitions.

The team released a total of 29 sailfish, including 19 on the first day. The Qualifier team placed second with a total of 20.

Hardway won the small boat division with 20 sailfish and lead from start to finish.

Get Lit’s Christopher Toomey won top angler honors and teammate Peter Miller, host of Mercury-sponsored angling show “Bass 2 Billfish,” took second. Top female angler honors went to Qualifier’s Janene Claus, while James David won top junior angler and Winfred Fili took the top amateur angler title.

Fifty teams competed in the 2011 Mayor’s Cup catching a total of 256 fish.
