A message from our President

Throughout its long and storied history, Mercury has engaged in practices focused on safety, conservation and recycling, and our first sustainability report, published in 2011, represented a milestone for this company. In that report, we looked into the future of our business and made aggressive commitments to sustainability for 2015. This report documents our progress and illustrates that we are well on our way to meeting, and in several areas exceeding, our 2015 goals, and have established aggressive commitments for further improvements by 2017.

Mercury Marine is the global leader in marine propulsion, and we have a broad and balanced view of the responsibilities that accompany that position. Mercury Marine is committed to achieving its business objectives in a way that balances fiscal responsibilities with responsibilities associated with the environment and the communities where we live and work.

A genuine concern and respect for the environment is inherent to the marine industry because our business is reliant on a healthy environment. With a presence in approximately 140 countries, Mercury understands that its technology, standards and people can make a real and measurable difference.

Mercury has successfully met the challenges of the most stringent global environmental regulations while providing the durability, reliability and performance our customers expect across a broad range of applications. Recognizing that our suppliers play a critical role in our business by providing essential components, technology and services, we have begun an active outreach program with our suppliers to encourage their focus on sustainability.

Mercury is poised to emerge from the economic downturn a stronger company, better prepared to compete, grow and succeed in a new and different marketplace. Much of our growth has been driven by new-product development and a relentless commitment to quality. These new products have met our goal of being more environmentally efficient than the products they replaced. Our growth also has required expansion of our facilities, and we have taken aggressive steps to incorporate state-of-the-art technologies to reduce energy consumption. This growth has also driven a significant increase in Mercury's employment, and we welcome the participation of our new employees in the next chapters of Mercury Marine's success.

At Mercury Marine, the safety, health and well being of our employees - both within and outside of the workplace - are vital components of our sustainability efforts. Mercury strives to provide a positive impact on our communities by sharing the talents of our people and promoting involvement in activities that support the growth, development and well being of the communities where we live and work.

As Mercury nears its 75th anniversary in 2014, we reaffirm that sustainable growth is our mission and that Mercury and its employees will remain steadfast leaders in the policies, practices and processes that reinforce our leadership in the global marine industry.
