Mercury Marine has been engaged for many years in energy conservation, recycling and environmental stewardship – activities that are good for our business, our communities, our people and the planet. During the past year, we measured former practices, policies and manufacturing processes, weighed those anticipated in the future, and consolidated our efforts under the banner of sustainability.

Mercury Marine approaches sustainability broadly and focuses equally on responsible manufacturing and the performance of our products. Much of our marine-engine business is reliant on clean water and a healthy environment. To that end, Mercury Marine has been and will remain a leader in the development of marine technologies that minimize effects on the environment. Mercury engines are in use around the world, from the farthest reaches of the Amazon River to the expanding markets of China and on Lake Winnebago near our home town of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Mercury conducts business in 130 countries and, while this report focuses on actions and efforts within the United States, subsequent reports will apply to Mercury globally. In every global market, Mercury Marine has successfully met the challenges of new emissions regulations, while providing the performance and reliability our customers expect.

However, our sustainability focus reaches far beyond designing lower-emission, fuel-efficient engines. New product elements, such as our award-winning ECO-Screen gauge, help boaters achieve the best possible fuel economy. Our future products and manufacturing processes will minimize the use of material resources, energy use and the creation of waste, and will emphasize appropriate end-of-life disposal. We work with our boat-builder partners to develop clean, efficient boat-and-motor packages, and our sustainability program will apply to our extensive supplier base to multiply the impact.

At Mercury Marine, the health, safety and well-being of our employees, both in and out of the workplace, are vital components of our sustainability efforts. Mercury strives to be a positive force within our many communities by tending to the local environment, promoting the well-being of our employee families and supporting volunteerism.

Sustainable growth is our mission, and this report is the first step in an expanded focus on sustainability that will infuse the products, practices, manufacturing processes and culture of Mercury Marine. It represents a renewed commitment to the future by Mercury Marine and its employees.
